Sweetgrass, known as the "Sacred Hair of Mother Earth" by indigenous peoples, is a beautiful smudging tool traditionally used to dispels negative energy and attract positive energy. When burned, its earthy, vanilla-scented smoke brings in sweet, grounding energy, comfort, and happiness. The three strands of the braid represent kindness, love, and honesty.

Cut a small piece of the braid before burning. ake one piece, hold a flame to the end, and wait for it to ignite. Blow out the flame and it will begin to smoke. Use a feather or hand to direct the smoke around yourself and/or your space and set your intention. It is believed that the smoke is sent out with your prayers for purification and as an invocation honoring the four directions. When you are finished, set it in a ceramic dish or abalone shell and let it fizzle out.
